Two intense hardcore crust bands from Stockholm, Sweden team up for a powerhouse new split album. MASSMORD have current/former members of such bands as DEUNGA, ARTICLE NINE, BEYOND PINK and VÅBIG 5 and have previously released two albums and have eseblished a reputation for delivering high quality, down-tuned hardcore punk (they have been compared to “WOLFBRIGADE and TO WHAT END? mixed with some FROM ASHES RISE and KYLESA.”). SHADES OF GREY share the other side of this split and are the perfect match, both musically and ideologically speaking. Having only previously released a demo, this will be the band’s first large-scale release. Both bands have excellent recording production with an absolutely huge sound. Prepare to be blown away!
Finally available on vinyl - the 2006 debut album from Los Angeles tribal grind / crust band RESISTANT CULTURE. Vinyl includes a bonus song not available on either CD version!
“Resistant Culture has claims to fame in guitarist Jesse Pintado (RIP), who, post-Napalm Death, was working with the band before his untimely passing, and vocalist Anthony Rezhawk (aka “Tony Militia”), who did the last Terrorizer album alongside Pintado. However, this band more than stands on its own, and I’m astounded that I didn’t hear of it earlier. This CD kills. It’s crusty grindcore with tribal influences - but the latter are truly tribal, working in Native American drums, chants, and flutes. The riffs are crushing, the recording is crisp, and blastbeats strafe the mix powerfully and precisely. 16 songs, 31 minutes, none less than fierce. Rezhawk’s vocals are strong and amazingly understandable: “Clear cut the heart / Strip mine the soul / Nature for profit / It’s all out of control.” These are sentiments I can definitely get with. The lyrics come in a simple, legible font, and the liner notes fold out to a bad-ass poster. I don’t say this often - this CD truly touches my soul. ” -invisibleoranges.com
RESIST were first among the wave of new anarcho-punk bands that swept over Portland, Oregon in the late 80’s. Durign their brief existence they became a fixture of the local DIY / anarchopunk movement and released several records before personal problems tore the band apart in 1994. During their brief time together RESIST released their self-titled debut EP, The Only Solution… LP, a pair of split EPs with DISRUPT and DEPRIVED, and finally the Ignorance is Bliss LP on Profane Existence Records. Druing their time they were considered one of the foremost activist bands of North America, even though they rarely played outside their home town. After the band split up, members of RESIST went on to form other bands such as GODLESS, DEFIANCE, SEVERED HEAD OF STATE, etc. In late 2007 three of the four original members (Kelly Halliburton, Tom Nims, and Ward Young) reunited for a 20th anniversay show in Portland, Oregon. Considered a success by a more mature and sober line-up, Tom and Ward have decided to keep the band going and will be playing more shows up and down the West Coast this spring and summer. This discography CD includes studio versions of all previously released RESIST tracks plus outtakes and live tracks. The recordings contained herein are completely remastered from the original recordings are sound the way they were originally intended to be. Aside from an extensive booklet of lyrics, photos, and flyers, there are also several video clips contained on each CD. A classic piece of North American anarcho-punk history finally given the attention it deserved.
The much anticipated second full length release from one of the most active DIY punk bands in existence. Contained herein are ten raging tracks of brutal hardcore with influences that range from 80’s American hardcore, Scandinavian d-beat thrash, and modern crustcore, including their own unique take on classics from POISON IDEA and STATE OF FEAR. Four of these tracks were previously released in 2007 as the limited edition Prey for Salvation EP that sold out in a matter of days, the others are totally brand new but in the same style and production. As with all WARTORN releases to date, the cover is beautifully illustrated by Marald, who raises the bar on quality work once again. As a special bonus, the first pressing comes in a gatefold jacket (whose inside is adorned with an amazing illustration by Eric from Man the Conveyors) plus a 22″ x 22″ poster of Marald’s cover art for the Prey for Salvation EP
The long-anticipated full length LP from West Virginia mountain punks APPALACHIAN TERROR UNIT is upon us. Nine raging tracks of angry crust punk with crushing riffs and (mainly) female vocals. They have shed one guitar player since their EP, making for a much more raw and organic sounds (more rock and less thrash). Both musically and lyrically the best comparison I can conjure up is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath meets NAUSEA’s Extinction LP (original mix). One of the most raw and intense musical experiences Profane Existence has released in a long time and a fitting finalé for Profane Existence Records. Includes all new cover art by Marald and a 16 page booklet inside. Mailorder copies come on GREEN vinyl while they last! Catalog: Exist 113… the number of the beast!
“Greenwashing: The unjustified appropriation of environmental virtue by a company, an industry, a government, a politician or even a non-government organization. Using more money, time and energy on slick PR campaigns aimed at promoting their eco-friendly images, than they do to actually protecting the environment.”
Doom One of the most well known crust bands who are thought of one of the most important bands of crust.
Doom began as band The Subverters with Jon (bass/vocals), Brian (guitar) and Jason (drums). After Jason was replaced by new drummer, Mike, the band changed its name to Doom.
This line up played one or two gigs, playing in a crossover metal style. Talbot and Pickering decided this wasn’t the direction they wanted the band to move in. Consequently they left Harris and the metal style of music, and decided to go in a crossover thrash style that Doom became known for. Pickering dropped bass to concentrate on vocals and Pete Nash joined as bass player. Harris joined up with Napalm Death so new drummer Tony ‘Stick’ Dickens, recently made bandless, joined up. The band started rehearsing with this line-up in mid 1987.
Doom broke up in 1990 but reformed in 1992. They toured Japan and recorded a 12″ of new songs released on the label Vinyl Japan. This proved to be the last recording with this line up. About this point the band almost split up but Talbot and Stick decided to continue with two new members. These being Tom Croft from Genital Deformities on vocals and Paul “Mall” Mallen on bass guitar. This line up recorded the split album with Selfish and a split 7″ EP with Hiatus. Mall left shortly afterwards (an amicable parting). He was replaced by bassist Scoot from Largactyl.
This line up recorded the split 7″ EP Doomed to Extinction with Extinction of Mankind, the Fuck Peaceville double LP, and the Hail to Sweden 7″ EP. This is also the line up who appear on the Videodoom video on MCR recorded on a European tour in 1994.
On March 18th 2005 Wayne Southworth (lead singer) was found dead in his home by a friend. The cause of death was an epileptic seizure.

Crust punk, or Crust, or crusty punk is one of the evolutions of Anarch punk and hardcore punk music. Crust is normally chaotic distorted music with fast metal like guitar riffs, loud screachy or noisy vocals and tend to be very short and very fast songs ranging from only a few seconds, but never longer then 2 minutes.
The style, which evolved in the mid-1980s in the UK, often had songs with dark, pessimistic lyrics, lingering on political and social issues. Crust became very popular in the Minneapolis scene where some of the best known curst bands populated many of the Minneaplis squats and low income areas. Phili and Berkley also had many great bands who made their mark on the crust scene.
These days crust popularity has dropped with very few active bands playing or touring. The peak of crust music was in 1995 and has felt a steady decline since then.
